Factions

There are several groupings of people and digital life within the world of CLRPG that are known to most of society. These groups have widely different perspectives and goals; some overlapping, some at odds, and others which are orthogonal to each other. The following sections describe the most well-known collections of social stereotypes that the denizens of CLRPG generally know about to some degree.

Connected People

The CCITI, and CCITI Life, are ever present in daily life. CCITI Life dominates the social, economic, and political lives of over half the world's population directly. Within the group of people who connect to CCITI Life there are several sub-factions, broken down primarily along boundaries of access to the CCITI.

Augmented

People with anything from virtual reality "lenses" to handheld implements for interacting with CCITI Life. The is the largest user base by far, with most people accessing their digital lives through wearable goggles or contact lenses. The higher ends of this spectrum involve adapters such as gloves, boots, helmets, and walking surfaces to help boost the interactive experience.

Lifted

People with virtual reality "couches", devices that can provide a fully immersive environment that completely simulates the virtual world through direct cerebral impulses. The "fully lifted" have gone so far as to get hardware interfaces implanted in their bodies to help make the transition to CCITI Life smoother and more complete. The lifted can be thought of as "the one percent" of the CCITI Life users, and the fully lifted are the one percent of that group.

Transcended

People like the player's characters, unique individuals that have discovered a means to pierce the boundary between the physical and digital worlds. This is the rarest group by far, every person either knows of the others or they will before long. It is a tighter community than the other factions of connected people by several orders of magnitude simply by nature of its select size and complex power dynamics. Many people speak of the transcended as legends, with different degrees of belief depending on the individual.

CCITI Processes

There are many types of automation that exist with CCITI Life which appear to have sentience. Many people speculate as to the nature of this "digital life" and what it means for the future of morality and ethics. There are an ever-growing number of stories about people who have had curious interactions with the automated processes of CCITI Life. The following are the most well known.

Bits

Simple single task floating interfaces that seem purely perceptive in function. Usually harmless, but signal the attention of the CCITI. Occasionally they have the capacity to interact with limited voice commands.

Daemons

Dynamic complexity programs that can appear in various ways, always tied to some form of programmatic behavior. They can have a wide range of abilities and powers. On the low end, daemons have been know to stalk and interfere with people in CCITI Life. On the extreme high ends, they have been known to destroy digital property and damage hardware in the World.

Firewalls

Power software that is tasked with enforcing boundaries between virtual worlds within CCITI Life. They have the power to forcibly disconnect people from virtual worlds and to perform complex transformations on the data flows that they influence. In some cases firewalls have been know to physically wound people in the World by taking actions within CCITI Life.
